Scandic Hamburg Emporio was among the winners of the Top Hotel Opening
Awards 2012, honouring the best hotel openings of the year in the Luxury, First
Class, Budget and Exceptional categories. Partner to the award is the Stuttgart
Trade Fair, with its fair Intergastra.
The “Teatro dell'Arte” in the Europa-Park in Rust was the venue for the industry prizes
this year, which were awarded for the second time. Some 180 industry representatives
attended the awards ceremony on the evening of 30 April. As was the case last
year, a total of 15 hotels were nominated in the Luxury, First Class, Budget and Exceptional categories.
Scandic Hamburg Emporio prevailed in the “First Class” category against the three other nominated hotels: the Barceló Hamburg, Oversum Vitalresort Winterberg and Panoramahotel Oberjoch.
- The Award Hotel Opening of the Year 2012 in Germany/Category First Class underlines impressively that the combination of unique theme hotels and the Scandic Concepts –especially sustainability- has become state of the art to the German Hotel Market, says Michel Schutzbach, VP Scandic Europe.
The jury of experts described Scandic Hamburg Emporio as a very special newcomer on the national hotel market – a hotel that possesses the ideal prerequisites for a successful future. The jury found the central city location, the generously furnished rooms on a five-star level and the sustainable orientation of the 325-room hotel particularly satisfactory.
The origin-based waste sorting system received a special mention, as did the air conditioning and heating systems, designed for a long working life and easy maintenance.
The barrier-free architecture, which makes the hotel suitable for both families with young children and people with physical disabilities, was also praised. The restaurant concept, both in the meeting area as well as in H2O, the in-house restaurant, remains true to its ecological concept. Organic products are used almost exclusively here, and this also ensured plus points for the Hamburg newcomer.
The hotel had already received the Silver Medal of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), the international Green Globe Award and the EU Ecolabel for its commitment in the areas of sustainability and accessibility for the physically disabled. Moreover, it tops, by far, the ranking of “Certified Green Hotels” from the German Travel Management Association (VDR), and was the first city hotel in Germany to receive the distinction of being a GREEN BRAND Germany 2013/14.
