Magnus Berglund, Director of Accessibility at Scandic Hotels.

Magnus Berglund, Director of Accessibility at Scandic Hotels, will participate in the 3rd International Congress on Ethics and Tourism from April 27 to 28, 2017 in Krakow, Poland. As part of the theme “Tourism for All,” Magnus will present Scandic’s successful accessibility program.

Representing the only hotel company invited to the event, Scandic’s Director of Accessibility, Magnus Berglund has been invited to talk about Scandic’s significant achievements in the area of accessibility and how companies can approach accessibility issues. The congress is being arranged for the third time by the European Commission and UNWTO in collaboration with the Government of Poland with the aim to gather an international audience composed of decision-makers and industry organizations.

Since 2003, Magnus has been working to ensure that Scandic’s offering is developed with consideration for people’s different needs when it comes to accessibility. With the goal of making the hotel experience accessible to as many guests as possible, Scandic has cooperated with organizations representing people with special needs, hotel guests and its employees to develop an accessibility checklist that includes 135 points. These are summarized in Scandic’s Accessibility Standard that covers all of the products and services offered at Scandic’s hotels. Among other things, this has led to Scandic being named World’s Best Hotel Operator at the 2015 World Responsible Tourism Awards.

- It’s great to be invited again by the EU and UNWTO to inspire people and talk about Scandic’s accessibility program. Unfortunately, in the tourist market today, it’s not always a matter of course for everyone to be able to travel and stay at hotels unhindered. It’s fantastic that these issues are being taken up by an international forum and I hope I can inspire other companies to make their offerings more accessible, says Magnus Berglund, Director of Accessibility at Scandic Hotels.
