A long-time Scandic favourite retires

Press release   •   Jun 03, 2013 08:00 BST

Assistance dog Ada retired by the 31 May 2013 after 11 years of faithful service. She has been assisting Scandic’s Director of Accessibility, Magnus Berglund, since 2002.

Scandic’s Accessibility Ambassador, Magnus Berglund, has a disability that means he needs help with everyday tasks, which is why he always has assistance dog Ada by his side, at home and at work.

Over the years she has very much become ‘Scandic’s Ada’ and is popular among guests and team members. She has also attracted more TV and newspaper coverage than anyone else at Scandic. Magnus regularly lectures around the world and Ada stays with him wherever he goes, which has resulted in hundreds of flights. In fact Ada is the only dog to have a SAS gold card, and naturally a Top Floor card at Scandic. Few have received so much attention, patting and love not just from guests and team members but from royalty and government ministers.

“Ada has been really important for Scandic and she will be missed by guests and team members alike,” comments Anders Ehrling, CEO of Scandic. “It’s good to know that she will be well looked after by Magnus’s parents out in the country, where she can take it easy.”

Dogs at Scandic hotels
Scandic is a dog-friendly company and most hotels welcome guests with dogs. Some of Scandic’s hotels give four-legged guests the full VIP treatment with dog bones or treats and more. Dogs are, after all, man’s best friend!

Ada’s successor is called Dixie and she will start work in July.
