Scandic is one of three nominees for the internationally recognised German Sustainability Award “Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis.” Scandic is also the first hotel chain ever to be nominated. The award, which goes to people, cities and companies that promote the idea of a sustainable society, received 800 submissions this year.
Scandic has the leading sustainability programme in the hotel industry, under which sound
environmental, economic and social considerations feature in every decision at every level. Now Scandic’s German hotels have been nominated for the prestigious German Sustainability Award “Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis”in the category ‘Companies with over 5,000 employees’. The award will be presented by German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on 28 November this year.
“We are incredibly pleased to be nominated for this accolade. Scandic began tackling sustainability back in 1993, and we see our long-term approach as our clearest statement of how seriously we take this issue. Sustainable enterprise contributes to a sustainable society, and that underpins our operations on a daily basis,” states Inger Mattsson, Director Sustainable Business at Scandic.
This year around 800 cities, buildings and companies signed up for the competition. The winners are chosen based on ecological, social, humanitarian and economic considerations. The award is
endorsed by the German Federal Government, business associations and numerous NGOs, among them UNESCO and UNICEF. Previous award winners include companies such as Siemens and Deutsche Post DHL, as well as individuals such as Prince Charles, Jane Fonda and Annie Lennox.
